NDIS – What does it mean?

  • National: The NDIS is being introduced progressively across all states and territories.
  • Disability: The NDIS provides support to eligible people with intellectual, physical, sensory, cognitive and psychosocial disability. Early intervention supports can also be provided for eligible people with disability or children with developmental delay.
  • Insurance: The NDIS gives all Australians peace of mind if they, their child or loved one is born with or acquires a permanent and significant disability, they will get the support they need.
  • Scheme: The NDIS is not a welfare system. The NDIS is designed to help people get the support they need so their skills and independence improve over time.
  • Permanent and significant disability: A permanent disability means your disability is likely to be lifelong. A significant disability has a substantial impact on your ability to complete everyday activities.
  • Supports and services: Assistance or products that help a person in their daily life and help them participate in the community and reach their goals.
  • Early intervention: Providing support to a person, either a child or an adult, as early as possible to reduce the impacts of disability or developmental delay and to build their skills and independence.

In Home Support

Our trained and compassionate carers can come to your home and provide you with the support you need to complete the tasks of everyday life.

We can provide care from 3 hours to 24 hours a day, depending on what you want and what you need.

You’ll be paired with experienced carers who can help you with personal hygiene activities, eating and drinking, mobility and transfers, domestic duties, learning life skills, community access and transportation.

We’ll sit down with you before your care starts and work out what you need and how we can help you in your day-to-day life. Depending on your needs, you may be assigned one or two carers to make sure you have the best support possible.

Areas We will Support you:

Personal Care

Personal care is essential to your well-being as well as your self-esteem and we can assist you as much or as little as you need with all areas of personal hygiene, including showering, bathing, oral hygiene, dressing, grooming and toileting, so you can feel your best every day.

Eating & Drinking

Food is an area of life that not only gives us the nourishment we need to stay healthy but can also bring great enjoyment and satisfaction. We can either prepare and cook meals for you or help you to do it yourself. We can also assist you with eating, drinking and peg feeding.

Mobility

It’s important to keep the body moving and the blood flowing. It’s also important to be able to move where you want, when you want. We can assist with moving you in and out of bed or using a wheelchair or other mobility device.

Domestic Duties

A home needs constant upkeep and if this is too much for you, HH&CS can help. Assistance with cleaning, vacuuming, washing and any other domestic chores will help make your home a comfortable and accessible space for you

Life Skills

Sometimes, learning little things can go a long way to making you feel proud. And let’s face it, we all love the warm glow of pride we feel when we accomplish something. HH&CS teaches life skills that support independence and increase confidence.

Community Access

Getting out and about in the community can be great fun but for some it can also be difficult. Whether it’s going to the supermarket, attending an appointment or heading to a rock concert, if you need assistance we’ve got you covered.
